Only a few years ago, number of Nepali families in East York Region was very few. Because of the available facilities, this location has been a place of attraction for Nepali residents as families from different parts of Canada started moving in. Gradually, it turned to be one of the major residential areas where about 100 families live in close affinity.
Rapid growth in a number of residents in the area made each of us realize a need to make community events more organized, inclusive and participatory. Although before the birth of this organization, Nepali families in this area had been organizing a few community events such as summer pot-luck, Deusi-Bhailo and birthday parties that brought all of us in close contact laying the strong foundation for the birth of an organization named Srijanshil Nepali Samaj (SNS)
SNS was established in August 21, 2015 and working to foster greater knowledge and understanding of arts, culture, values manners and social customs among the Nepalese Canadian living in the area. SNS has been conducting different activities in the community since its establishment. It celebrates annual picnic, organizes program on the occasion of the Teej, Dashain, Tihar, and New Year and many more.
